4th of July and Frivolous Friday

I found a bit of time to sew something beside little kidlet clothes this week! I have the applique and ditch work done and am ready to do the finishing work.  I brought it outside to see it in the sunshine to help decide where to “go” next.  (The grass was bumpy, but you get the idea.) Take a peek!

Need a grin?  This picture is of my parents and Mom’s sister from Cody with my grandchildren.  The first shot went pretty well, and then the squirm started!

Here is a great picture of Cathy and Addy at the girl’s birthday party.  It was so nice to have her there!  Tomorrow is Bridger’s first birthday.

What Took So Long?

This was one of those projects that fought me all the way. It took me forever to get it done and it's a simple project! Anyway, I didn't do justice to my sister's pattern but this is my version.

Christmas Cheer

Finished my little Christmas quilt. I thought I should have something new for our first Christmas in this home.

JUST FINISHED

I just finished ALL of my Christmas sewing. Now I can decorate the house and just sit back and enjoy the holidays this year. This is a little wall hanging I just finished. I told my husband that if we were snowmen this is what we'd look like. They were just so cute, they make me want to smile every time I look at them.

TA DAH!

I was surfing the net when I came across a lot of Christmas trees. One of them inspired me to make my own pattern. It was so much fun and quite easy to do. I don't know how many trees I think I need but here's another one for you to enjoy. :>)

I am SO excited--I won a blue ribbon at our guild's annual challenge Monday night! I don't think I've ever before won any kind of a ribbon for ANYTHING, so, naturally, I have admired and petted it a lot. Making it even more exciting is the fact that Judy won a ribbon, too. We're on a roll, girls!

I owe this fun quilt to Freddy Moran and Gwen Marston, who inspired me with their book that I posted a blog about earlier. As soon as I got my hands on this book (thanks, sister Linda!), I knew it struck a chord with me. From my stash I put together many different blocks in various bright color combinations, using lots of black and white fabrics to pop the colors.

The tree block, which is foundation pieced, was designed by Tina Curran, whose quilt "Dancing Trees" appeared in the Dec/Jan 2010 Quilter's Newsletter magazine. I resized the block for this quilt. Making "wonky", skewed blocks is really fun--I highly recommend it. It's a good thing that the challenge entry rules included a size limitation, or I'd still be adding borders. Since I had to stop, I now have lots of blocks ready for another quilt. Oh boy!

Secret Santa Gift

I won't be able to bring this to our next show n tell because it has to be mailed before then. This is for my secret santa gift in my pug club. It'll be going to Ohio.

I made a wall hanging of Santa too. He's about 3' tall, has lights draped over his shoulder and is holding an antique lantern. I was hoping the quilting would show up better. Maybe you'll just have to come see him!

Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. Yummy! Can't wait!

Almost finished

I have been in the mood to do a little Christmas sewing. This project isn't quite finished yet, it still needs some quilting and binding, but I thought he was pretty cute and I wanted to share him with you. Let's all get those machines hummmmming and get our holiday quilts underway. What do you say?

A little Halloween wallhanging!

Feedin' the Chickens

Here's a wall hanging that I just finished for my eldest daughter, who has two dozen chickens of various beautiful varieties. I cut the little girl and the chickens out of a panel because I wanted to use a different background. Flying geese seemed appropriate for the border, and I added little red beads for the feed. The background fabric is printed with words such as "pure", "genuine", "fresh", authentic". It just seemed perfect for someone who "grows" her own eggs. Oh, and in case you want to see some of those hens that inspired me to create the quilt, here they are, too! Cluck cluck.

Catching up with Linda

I'm playing catch-up on our blog. Here's my newest fall table runner. I needed 3 before next week and 3 are now FINISHED! Hurrah!

Here's my newest foster Daisy (aka Daisy Mae) and just had to post a photo of her as she's all white and has one blue eye and one green eye.

Last but not least, here's my very favorite ruler--24" x 5". It's chipped (bought a new one but haven't taken it out of the plastic) and it's all sticky from basting spray, but I love, love, love it.   Linda

Our September Bee Meeting

Robbie here… Our September bee meeting was held at my house.  A highlight of my month is getting together with this group.  I love these friends.

We always have show-n-tell of things we have been working on.  We have been very busy!  We had lunch and sewed in the afternoon.

Judy and Sally are sisters.  They picked a design and each constructed their quilt without sharing.  They didn’t see the other’s quilt until they were both done; how fun, right?  They revealed their quilts to us yesterday.  Aren’t they just TERRIFIC??  We LOVED them!

Linda is our resident redwork specialist and she quilts, too!  She she has a great eye for color and detail.  Linda made this fall table runner and wall hanging as gifts.  The recipients will consider themselves very fortunate!  They are just lovely!

I showed everyone the Amelie bag I made for show-n-tell.  Since I shared it on a previous blog post, I decided to post what I stitched at our get together.  It will be a gift for a new baby.  The second picture is a completed piece I did for another child a few years ago.  It’s so sweet, don’t you think?  I just love them!  (Maybe I’ll try selling them on Etsy.)

I also worked on a fall table runner, but I’ll share that later!

I made a much larger version of this quilt for my daughter when she was Senior Princess as part of her tribute for the Honored Queen in Job’s Daughters.  I loved it so much that I HAD to make myself one many years later.  The first quilt was hand quilted, this one was done by machine.
