Here's what I bought yesterday

I went to the expo yesterday with 2 friends--it was their first show and they were impressed. I always enjoy going so I wasn't going to mind going again today with you all. We all left with full shopping bags. I ended up with a couple gadgets and a couple patterns.

I'd convinced my friend Sondra to get an acrylic sewing table for her machine and luckily they were there at the show so she ordered one --getting a show discount. I hadn't *planned* on buying any accessories at the booth but then broke down. When I saw the table polishing kit and how slippery the fabric slid after using it, I was sold-- as I've shared before, I'm struggling with free motion. I also got a stickable seam guide for when I sew rag quilts needing a 1/2 inch seam. They're both on their website:

Have I mentioned that I have a whole cabinet of Christmas patterns, that I never get to come Nov/Dec?? Well, what's one more, right? This string of stockings was hanging in the booth and it reminded me of Judy's Christmas lights. The sales lady said you can make as many stockings as family members--and I thought: AND you don't have to fill them! Also, I thought it would be a good way to use up Christmas fabric and I could embroider names on the stockings. Anyway, it's much cuter all made up than the photo on the pattern.

Loving all your projects!

I finally had time to view our blog and LOVE all of your creations! And to think we have TWO ribbon winners in our small circle is pretty amazing, don't you think?! I especially love your Thanksgiving Tree, Sandy, and your beautiful Christmas tree, Judy, you designed YOURSELF! Wow, it blows me away.

I was in sewing marathon mode the days before I left on the cruise, but managed to make either candle mats or table scarves for each of my family members and friends. whew. Didn't have time to take photos unfortunately, but everyone seemed pleased with their presents.

I took these photos in a small family run winery in Crete, Greece so I could share with you. The first photo is of a bedroom in the 1800s--I believe the colored embroidery on the wall was done with ribbon. 2nd photo is a shelf of old irons. No, the photo is NOT blurry because I had sampled the wine (although I did). It was because I had to hurry as I was in a moving line. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

More candle mats

Robbie those photos are beautiful! I love staying at Streamside--one of my favorite places in Estes. Aren't we lucky to live in this gorgeous state??

I've completed 4 candle mats so far and have begun an additional 2. It's fun to use left over fabric from Table runners so they match. So fun, quick and easy! I'm so happy you guys like making them too!

Mixed up days

Well, I remember those flowers, Robbie! They do put you in mind of fall, don't they? So glad you enjoy them.
Ok. I'm on vacation so I think I deserve some slack. I was frivolous on Thursday instead of Friday and I'm about to post some pattern photos. But I really wanted to show you the patterns I bought at the quilt store the other day. Here they are:

Beach Photos

I was so eager to put the quilt shop and vertebrae photos up, I forgot the beach photo. Here's right in front of the house and a photo of the inside of the house. Could we quilt in front of those windows or what?? I bought a neat pattern with woven fabric--my newest sewing interest so it was calling to me!

Florida quilters

I got my cousins to take me to the local quilt store and as usual the quilters were SO friendly and nice! I signed up for their emails and they've already emailed me just to say thanks for coming into the store! I invited them all to Colorado. And I bought several patterns, of course.

We went seashell hunting this afternoon and found a whale's vertebrae! It was fascinating so here it is:

Catching up with Linda

I'm playing catch-up on our blog. Here's my newest fall table runner. I needed 3 before next week and 3 are now FINISHED! Hurrah!

Here's my newest foster Daisy (aka Daisy Mae) and just had to post a photo of her as she's all white and has one blue eye and one green eye.

Last but not least, here's my very favorite ruler--24" x 5". It's chipped (bought a new one but haven't taken it out of the plastic) and it's all sticky from basting spray, but I love, love, love it.   Linda

Our September Bee Meeting

Robbie here… Our September bee meeting was held at my house.  A highlight of my month is getting together with this group.  I love these friends.

We always have show-n-tell of things we have been working on.  We have been very busy!  We had lunch and sewed in the afternoon.

Judy and Sally are sisters.  They picked a design and each constructed their quilt without sharing.  They didn’t see the other’s quilt until they were both done; how fun, right?  They revealed their quilts to us yesterday.  Aren’t they just TERRIFIC??  We LOVED them!

Linda is our resident redwork specialist and she quilts, too!  She she has a great eye for color and detail.  Linda made this fall table runner and wall hanging as gifts.  The recipients will consider themselves very fortunate!  They are just lovely!

I showed everyone the Amelie bag I made for show-n-tell.  Since I shared it on a previous blog post, I decided to post what I stitched at our get together.  It will be a gift for a new baby.  The second picture is a completed piece I did for another child a few years ago.  It’s so sweet, don’t you think?  I just love them!  (Maybe I’ll try selling them on Etsy.)

I also worked on a fall table runner, but I’ll share that later!

Frivolous Friday

Here's 2 out of 3.

 The most I could get to sit still together was 2 of the current resident 3 dogs in the house. But these are my permanent 2 sewing buddies, Sadie and Lexi. Lexi sometimes 'helps' me by laying under my sewing table and pushing the sewing pedal when I least expect it!  ~ Linda

Missed another quilt guild meeting

Well, I missed another quilt guild meeting last night, due to a rescue emergency. Hmmm....maybe that's why I don't quilt as well as I should! So sorry I missed the meeting!

About 4:30 yesterday I learned that out 20 dogs transported to Denver for a big adoption event half were successfully adopted, but the remaining 9 were scheduled to be returned to their kill shelter in NM early this morning. I had to act FAST and rounded up a few other volunteers to go see them and we saved many dogs from shelter life or worse. HURRAH!

Here's the sweet dog I brought home to foster and who is now romping outside with my dogs after 4 months of living at the shelter in a cage.         ~ Linda

Fall is Here

And so are the beautiful fabrics! I have to get busy and sew some gifts for my cousins I'll see next month at the BEACH HOUSE! with the sound of waves and scent of the ocean!! Made this on Thursday.

Linda's Sewing Studio

Here's my newly painted sewing space. Color isn't clear in the photo but it's green--much brighter in reality. I figure if I hang a sign that says 'Create' in front of my face, I might feel inspired. Still waiting.

The magnet board is one of the many things I bought on my SECOND shopping trip to Ikea. Just love that store!

And last but not least here are my pooches, Sadie and Lexi. Couldn't get the 2 fosters to stay still long enough to get them in the scene.

Is it time to be frivolous ??

My son's girlfriend and I decided to go to Ikea. I went a while back with friends and before that had never understood what the big deal was about the new store in Centennial. I learned it's the 2nd biggest in the US, is acres big and there's a maze (with arrows) you follow to get through the store. I found wonderfully cheap items and thought the Swedish lunch we had was delicious. So going shopping again today!

I'm On--I think....

I'm Linda and I live with my dogs. My 2 adult children aren't cooperating on the grandchildren front so I have chosen to volunteer with Animal Rescue of the Rockies, following Sally's sweet daughter, Shonda.

I do my share of quilting and sewing by hand, but never, never perfectly so the great seamstresses in this sewing bee are very compassionate in allowing me to remain a member. ~ Linda

Linda's Halloween "Red"work

Here is a wall hanging I made for Kim. I tried to personalize it by changing a couple of the bottles: Instant Sod and Slow Motion Elixir for Hyper Kids.

My friends warned me about using "The Witch is in" but knowing Kim, she would just laugh! I did decide to use "The Herbalist is in" since she works at an apothecary and mixes herbs.

Linda has the kindest heart of anyone I know! She foster parents German Shepard and mixes. She has found many many homes and even raised a litter of babies!

Meet the Girls!

We are members of the Columbine Quilt Guild in Colorado.

Our bee just celebrated our first anniversary. We meet at least one time a month and usually meet at someone's house. The best part of our getting together is our show-n-tell. We've learned so much from one another and are always encouraged to try something new.

Our specialty is our salads! The hostess supplies the greens and the rest of us bring goodies to add.
